FRE 3230
A postcard, with the insignia of the 434th Fighter Squadron, 479th Fighter Group and a P-38 Lightning (L2-Z, serial number 44-23169) nicknamed "Sleepy Time Gal". Via Fred Hayner. Handwritten caption on image: "Fred's Drawing - A.A.F. England, Nov. 1944. 42-3169 L2-Z." Handwritten caption on reverse: 'May 5, 1991. Dear Roger - Here is another Varga gal I did in 1944. It's not in color but you might enjoy having it (no need to return). It was sent home to my wife (then girlfriend) Muriel in Nov. 1944 as you can see. We transitioned to Mustangs in Sept. so this was perhaps done sometime in the Summer '44. It went down a few days later (Lt. Wallace). Good luck with all your projects and good health, Fred Hayner. P.S. A friend of mine in Florida (Don Lambert) has been into aircraft salvage and he has been sending me aluminum[sic] panels on which I am recreating some of my nose art.' On reverse: Warpaint [Sticker].
