44-11750 Lonesome Polecat Jr.
On February 24, 1945, this aircraft took part in an escort mission of bombers to Bremen. Flown by Second Lieutenant Sylvester Joseph Evans, it had taken off from American airbase A.84 Chièvres in Belgium. During this mission, the P-51K Mustang 44-11750 'Lonesome Polecat Jr.' was fired upon by German flak about 3 kilometers southeast of the Amsterdamsche Veld. Second Lieutenant Sylvester Joseph Evans made a belly landing, which he survived. The plane was shot on fire by other fighter planes. The pilot was made POW.
