Failed to return from a mission to the Hanomag vehicle factory at Hanover, Germany 22 Oct '44 (9 MIA). On return, mid-air collision with B-17G #44-8099 over the North Sea, off Clacton, Essex. 

This plane was flying in #4 position of the high squadron; the other plane was lead of the high squadron. The lead plane reduced speed while in a gradual climb. At that time, this plane over-ran and slid ahead underneath the lead plane, the pilot not making any attempt to lose altitude or get clear. They remained together for about ten seconds then collided. This plane broke up, exploded and crashed into the sea. MACR 9656
