War weary aircraft transferred to 495FTG at Atcham. Involved in a mid air collision during routine training formation whilst flown by 2n Lt William E Maxwell. Collided with P47 42-75071 flown by 1Lt Dallas Clary. 

Maxwell was killed in initial impact and made no attempt to recover. A witness described the aircraft as going "straight in with flames coming from the vicinity of the supercharger"

Aircraft was recovered in 1998 alongside 2n Lt Maxwell. The remains of the airframe are on display at the Wartime Aircraft Recovery Group Museum, Sleap Aerodrome, Shropshire, Uk

Approximate Crash Location 18 October 1944 - 18 October 1944 Mid air collision during formation maneuvers. Struck left underside of fellow P47 in formation. Impact killed pilot, propeller of other aircraft entered through canopy and continued forwards through top of fuselage. Debris entered supercharger piping and ignited during its dive from approximately 11,000ft. Aircraft went straight in at speed.
