True to it's name 'The Bad Penny' always did come back to base. It was a veteran of the many conflicts throughout 1943 and was eventually decommissioned in 1943 and sent back to the US as a training plane making it one of the few original B-17F models used by the 96th to survive combat. It was used by the 3rd Division to train pilots and was eventually scrapped in 1945.
