7 May 1943 | Aircraft became lost after encountering heavy storm about 7 hours into ferry flight from Goose Bay to Scotland with a refueling stop in Iceland; ditched near British escort carrier HMS ARCHER about 150 miles southwest of Meeks Field, but overturned and sank in two minutes. Two crew drowned, eight rescued by British destroyers HMS FAULKNOR and HMS ONSLAUGHT. |
