P-47 Serial 42-28879 was flown by 2nd Lt Bradley B. Clark of 371st Fighter Group/406th Fighter Squadron when it was lost on return from a strafing mission to Germany, 23 December 1944. Hit by a German fighter above Weiler, Germany, it crashed at 11:35 at 1,5km West of the village of Omelmont, France, as the pilot hit a house while trying to find his base of nearby Tantonville in heavy ground fog. Bradley Clark was killed. No Missing Air Crew Report (MACR).
Pieces of his P-47 were found in 2011 and a plaque has been placed near the crash place in honor of its young pilot. More details on 2nd Lt Bradley Clark's page.
