The B-24J, 42-73506, in the 44th Bomb Group, the 506th Bomb Squadron, named, Black Jack, was flown by 2nd Lt. Guy Johnson and his crew. His plane was the 2nd B-24, named, Black Jack.
On 8 Apr 1944, on a mission to attack the Airdrome at, Langhagen, Germany, Johnson's plane was attacked by Messerschmitt ME-109s and was shot down over Brunswick, Germany. This was the 2nd plane lost from the 506th Bomb Squadron, piloted by Lt. Guy Johnson. The crew managed to bail out. But Lt. Johnson was reported to have been killed on the ground. 9-POW. 1-KIA. 8 Apr 44.
