Detailed History

On 5 July 1944, B-17 Flying Fortress 42-37888 'Aces n'eights' of the 379th Bomb Group clipped the wing of Burbidge's Bakery, in Andover during a training flight, and crashed in nearby fields. Six members of the crew were killed in the incident. 

Local schoolboy Peter Curtis, saw the aircraft crash while getting off the school bus, in 2022 he worked to unveil a memorial plaque on the bakery.
