ETTG, Winter, D crew. 381st BG, 532nd BS, 8th AF. Prisoner of War, 9 October 1943 on Mission #37 to the aircraft factories at Anklam, Germany. T/Sgt Teal bailed out along with 2LT Liming, 2LT Taormina and 2LT Morgan after a 20mm shell exploded in the cockpit, wounding the pilot, starting a fire and causing the aircraft to go out of control. The pilot was only stunned and regained control of the aircraft, put it on automatic pilot and extinguished the fire in the rear of the cockpit. He was able to land at a different base.
