The B-24D, Ambrose II, flown by the pilot, Lt. John R. "Packy" Roche and crew, were hit by both German fighters and ground flak attacking a target at the port of Bizerte, Tunisia. Roche made a dead stick landing near Bone, Algeria, on their return from the mission over Bizerte, Tunisia. 3 KIA. 7 RTD. 13 Dec 1942.
