Howard Gilbert was killed in action while serving as bombardier on the B-24D, 41-23745, Katy Bug, when the aircraft lost two engines while attempting a landing at Little Stukeley and struck a tree. Three other crew members were also killed in action (KIA). The aircraft was salvaged. 4 KIA. 27 Nov 42.
