Staff Sergeant George C. Janser was born January 26, 1920. His parents were John and Stefania Janser. He was from Terryville, Connecticut.
On October 20, 1943, he was serving as the Tail Gunner aboard “Shack Rabbit III,” B-17 from the 413th Bomb Squadron, when it went down over Hensies, Belgium.
George Janser was hit on the first attack and was found dead in the tail section on the ground by Belgian civilians. Like the 3 other KIA on board, he was buried on 22 October 1943 at the Chièvres communal cemetery, near Ath, Belgium. His body was later repatriated to the United States.
