Frederick John Cataldi

Military

[ Badly damaged on a mission to Leipzig on 20 Feb 1944, B-17F #42-5859 crash landed near Bozeat, Northamptonshire. RTD.] Frederick Castaldi was Top Turret gunner on B-17F #42-5788 "AOG, Not In Stock", shot down after being attacked by five ME109s and crashed in Duffel, 8km NE of Mechelen, Belgium, on a mission to Büden, Germany on 22 February 1944. Prisoner of War (POW). Wounded on board the ship, he was brought to hospital in Saint-Gilles, Brussels, where he died from wounds on 25 March (DOW as a POW).
