Alfred Louis Wickman
MilitaryAdded photo forwarded by his son Peter
Alfred Wickman was Navigator on B-17G #42-39962 on the mission to Frankfurt am Main, Germany on 11 February 1944. Damaged by fighters, force-landed/crashed South of Dieppe, France after the crew bailed out. Helped by French citizens and members of the Résistance, he was helped to Paris and taken in charge by an evasion organization. Leaving Denonville, the group he was in was intercepted by the Germans on 12 June 1944. In a later identity control by the Gestapo, he was arrested then detained, first in the prison in Chartres, then in the one in Fresnes, near Paris. He was sent to Germany and interned at Stalag Luft 1 in Barth.
See the story of his evasion and capture at http://www.evasioncomete.org/fwickmaal.html Prisoner of War (POW).
