Photo from the Family of Nicholas James Adelmann
Nicholas James Adelmann was a Farmer. His 2C classification as a farmer made him exempt from being drafted, but he wanted to serve his country anyway. He was hit by FLAK in the abdomen on his 10th mission, in which he was hospitalized for 2-3 weeks. During his recuperation, 9 men from his Squadron were lost, including his best friend, Leonard Strong. He flew all 35 required missions and was Honorably discharged in July 1945.
