William J Maguire

Object Number - UPL 26291 - William J. "Mickey" Maguire, flew P-47D "Boston Bull" and later P-51D "Lil Boston Bull". He was credited with 7 air kills and was a top squadron ace....

Flew with 351st FS, 353rd FG, 8th AF. A squadron ace with 7 victories, flew a P-47D named 'Boston Bull' and a P-51D 'L’il Boston Bull'. Shot down, managing to evade capture, returning to his squadron prior to the end of the war. Killed in flying accident (KIF ), in P-51B Mustang 43-12433 on 11-Aug-45. Maguire was killed when his P-51 Mustang crashed near Great Dunmow, Essex. Colonel Ben Rimerman, his passenger, also perished. They are both buried at the Cambridge American Cemetery.
