Shot down 26 July 1943 in B-17 #42-3119. Plane ditched in North Sea. Returned to base.
Shot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-2990 'Dame Satan', Evaded (EVD). Escaped from enemy occupied territory via Belgium and France with the help of Belgian and French citizens through the Comet Line. Crossed paths with AAF ball turret gunner, Robert W Metlen. Reached Spain and Gibraltar from where he flew back to England on 18 December 1943.
