Description: FIGHTER-BOMBER MISSION

Notes: A mix of 460 P-47s and P-51s fly a fighter-bomber mission against oil targets in North and Central Germany. A swarm of 750 Luftwaffe fighters attack in the Magdeburg-Munster-Hannover areas when they mistake the fighter formation for a heavy bomber formation. This is the largest apposing Luftwaffe fighter force sighted to date. The 489th Bomb Group departs the UK for the US on this date. They will be re-equipped with B29s in 1945 and sent to the Pacific Theater.
