Notes: These are all tactical targets. The Allies are getting frustrated with the slow advances being made in the hedgerow country SE of Normandy. Advance is by one farmers field at a time and casualties are mounting. Allied high command is contemplating the idea of using the bomber forces in a tactical, close-air-support role to enable a breakout between Vire and Avranches by elements of Omar Bradley's 1st Army. (OPERATION COBRA). Elements of 4 fighter groups afterwards strafe ground targets claiming 23 locomotives, 18 trucks, and 55 railcars destroyed. 1st Bomb Division was made up of 92nd Bomb Group, 303rd Bomb Group, 305th Bomb Group, 306th Bomb Group, 379th Bomb Group, 384th Bomb Group. 3rd Bomb Division was made up of 94th Bomb Group, 100th Bomb Group
