IMAGEEngland : Hardened 8th Army veterans recently returned to Britain to renew acquaintance with Bomerang, a battle scarred B-24D bomber that supported the British Army at Tripoli, Sfax, Sousse, Tunis, Bizerte, Messina, Palermo, and Cotrone. The British saw plenty of, Bomerang, and her sister planes in the Mediterranean skies, strafing and bombing the Germans at low level in the desert, and at sea, as Rommel was driven out of North Africa, back into Italy. Bomerang, was one of the Liberator bombers originally brought from Britain to North Africa, the Middle East, the Romanian oil fields, and Austria. Having been away to war for 18 months, Bomerang is saying goodbye to the ETO, gathering up a crew of air and ground heroes and taking them back to the U.S. for a war bond tour. L-R : Pvt. George Read of London, Pvt. Bernard Birch of Watford, Pvt. Thomas Burchew of London - holder of the Military Medal, Pvt. Harry Alger of New York City, Pvt. Frederick Hopkins of Fulham, and David Hodson of Minchin, Hampton and 8th Army platoon leader.
