B-24 Liberator, 42-40787, Vagabond King, in the 565th Bomb Squadron, the 389th Bomb Group, and the 8th Air Force, and crew, flew on the Ploesti bombing mission over Ploesti, Romania, piloted by Lt. John B. McCormick, diverting safely to Cypress because of flak damage at Ploesti. 1 Aug 43. - Vagabond King, was later shot down in the North Sea by FW-109 fighter planes and lost with all crewmembers. 10 KIA 18 Nov 43.
