Assigned to 384FS, 364FG, 8AF USAAF. Hit by flak on 9-Aug-44 in P-51 44-13766, Killed in Action. Lt Nielson survived the bale out and was picked up by members of the town who turned him over to the German authorities. He was beaten and killed by SS officers. The chief perpetrator was sentenced to "Life" by a US Military Court in 1947. He was paroled ten years later.
