Ollie L Knott Jr. completed 36 missions as a tail gunner with Lt. Kelley's Crew (549th Bomb Squadron / 385th Bomb Group) from September 1944 to February 1945. B-17s he served on included the Milk Maid (unknown s/n), Hit Parade Jr., Dozy Doats, Sweet and Lovely, Raggedy Ann, Rio Tinto, Hare's Breadth (19 missions), Hell's Belles, Hot Chocolate, Flying Vixen and several other planes who had no official nicknames. Ollie and his crew mates were awarded the "Lucky Bastards Award" for completing 30+ missions.
Following the war, he graduated from the University of Georgia and worked for the Georgia Forestry Commission until retirement. Ollie Knott Jr. passed away in 2006.
