466th BG Historian
Lauren "Sandy" Sanborn was born March 31, 1925 in Concord, NH. He left High School to join the Army Air Corps at age 17. After training, he was sent overseas and was assigned to the 466th Bomb Group/785th Bomb Squadron. He was on board the battle-damaged B-24H #42-95248 "The Falcon" with the Harry Taylor Crew #552 which was forced to crash land at Shipdham on return from the 8 January 1945 mission to bomb communications centers in Germany.
After the war he completed High School and then attended the University of New Hampshire where he earned a degree in engineering. He was recruited by Joseph E. Seagram & Sons and went to work for them after he graduated from college.
He married Audrey Graham of Concord, NH. They were married for 54 years and raised 3 children. During Sandy's career at Seagram's he resided in Louisville, KY and Stamford, CT.
After retiring from Seagram's in 1984 he moved to Santa Clarita, CA where he resided until his passing away on September 25, 2010.
"My father was a man of few words and rarely spoke about the war or the plane crash. He was a good, honest and hard working man. A good husband and father. He loved photography. I miss him."
- Rob Sanborn
