Lt. Joe D. Maguire flew 35 Aircraft Credit Sorties with the 321st Transport Squadron, 27th Air Transport Group, 302nd Transport Wing, USSTAF, for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters. (He did not receive the medals until 1994.) While he was credited with those combat sorties, (133:10 combat hours) he also flew 633:50 additional theater hours, which were important missions, just not considered combat. These regular Army transport units were extremely vital to the war effort, but they received very little recognition at the time, or in the history books. Joe received battle stars for Central Europe, Northern France Ardennes and the Rhineland campaigns.
