James H McLean
MilitaryMy grandfather's personal photo collection.
Maschhoff L. Crew
This is his son, Haydn J McLean. I have never seen this photo of my father before, so I appreciate posting it. Under another identical photo, he is described as Jack McLean. Nope, never was Jack. Always Jim. He is buried on a farm in Berks Co, Pa. I had his flight records, which I have passed to my son.
Question: I learned long after my father died that he had a friend with whom he would eat most meals in the mess hall. One night there was an urgent bomb run. No time for breakfast. That would be served on their return. On his return, my father waited for his friend to join him for breakfast, but the adjacent seat remained empty. My father old that story to my mother years after the war and my father could not contain himself, such was the grief over his friend. My mother said he never mentioned his friend's name. Anyone have any idea? I would like to get in touch with the family.
