"Lost an eye in a car wreck prior to WW2 but was accepted into the Army Airforce at least partially due to some training he received while in high school in Shawnee Oklahoma. He was trained as an A&P mechanic at the Boeing Aircraft training facility in Amarillo Texas.
Dad served as a B-24 maintenance crew chief attached to the 453rd Bomb Group stationed at Old Buckenham England in 1943 and 1944. Passed away in March of 1964 at the age of 43. At the time of his passing, he was responsible for oversight of repair and maintenance of FAA's fleet of airliner sized aircraft at the FAA center in Oklahoma City. "
