Frank Cazenove Jones Jr
Military ROLL OF HONOURAssigned to 335FS, 4FG, 8AF USAAF. On his final mission prior to a 30 day leave, his A/C [P-51D 44-14027] struck by flak while strafing an airdrome in Sola, Norway 8-Aug-44. A/C engine gave out over the North Sea and forced to bail out. Was not seen to surface. KIA. MACR 7445.
As he detached from his squadron with glycol pouring from the lower cowling of the engine of his badly damaged A/C, Jones radioed Lieutenant Russell, a fellow pilot, to tell his fiancée that he would see her after the war. He and Miss Elizabeth Konantz had become engaged while he was in England, and were to have been married during his 30 day leave.
