Ernest j Lewis regularly flew in B-17G 43-38893 Patches but on the 10th of April 1945 was seconded to fly  on 44-8702, Forever Amber.  This aircraft was shot down by an enemy jet aircraft and crashed near Burg  Germany MACR13884 He was captured and became a Prisoner of War
He was a close friend of Daggett Morse
