Shot down on August 10, 1944 while strafing trains. Bailed out and evaded capture with aid of local French resistance near Rouen, Normandy for three weeks. Lived behind the lines in Chateau Le Matre near Barentin. Part of the time lived in same building with several German officers. Stayed in nearby barn for several days. Returned to England through German/English Lines 3 Sept. 1944.
