"After crossing the English Channel fighters intercepted them a cannon shell exploded in the cockpit. Fighters continued to engage the bomber again and again. Earned the Distinguished Flying Cross as well as 1 Lt Howard N Young and 2 Lt Cleveland D Hickman. After Yenalavage dropped his bombs, he dressed wounds for Young and Hickman and took over Hickman's controls in the cockpit and landed the plane with instructions from Hickman."
Awards: DFC, AM (3OLC), EAME.
"While on a training flight as co-pilot, he was killed in the crash of RB-24E Liberator 41-28564 ten miles southeast of Hartselle, Alabama."
