Technical Sergeant Andrew W. Essman was the dedicated crew chief of Aircraft B-26B-55-MA 42-96191/9FN nicknamed “The Milk Run Special.”
Bronze Star Medal Citation:
"For exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service. Technical Sergeant Andrew W. Essman, 32466964, 597th Bombardment Squadron, 397th Bombardment Group (M) AAF, is assigned to duty as crew chief on a B-26 type airplane. Between 20 April 1944 and 16 August 1944, the airplane flew fifty (50) consecutive combat missions without mechanical failure. By his energy, devotion to duty, and excellent leadership, Technical Sergeant Essman rendered services of great value to the war effort."
