Photos of Lt. Col. Anthony A. Palopoli (USAF Ret.) when he was stationed at Duxford. He was a P-51 mustang fighter pilot in the 8th Air Force, 78th fighter group, 83rd fighter squadron. He flew 60 missions over Germany from Sept 44 to Apr 45. He flew the last mission of World War II.
His plane was named "Little Joe" after his brother who was in the infantry.
He will turn 101 in 2024. He still has all his hair, his mind is sharp and his health is excellent. He remembers everything!
He was in the Air Force for 22 years and became a meteorologist. He was Commander of the Weather Station at Dover Air Force Base. He still lives in Wilmington, Delaware.
After retirement from the Air Force, he went on to another wonderful career at the DuPont Company.
