Wing
Constituted as 44th Bombardment Wing (Heavy) on 15 Feb 1943. Activated on 1 Mar 1943. Moved to England in Jul 1943 and assigned to Eighth AF. Combat elements apparently were not assigned and wing headquarters was not fully manned prior to Nov 1943. Redesignated 99th Combat Bombardment Wing (Medium). Served in combat with Ninth AF until May 1945. Redesignated 99th Bombardment Wing (Medium) in Jun 1945. Re- turned to the US, Sep-Oct 1945. Inactivated on 4 Oct 1945.
