Military site : non-airfield
Sometime after late summer in 1943 an RAF Gunnery Range was taken over to provide gunnery training for B-17 crews close to where they would be deployed at East Anglian airfields.
At some point the site became a Prisoner of War Camp and was possibly still occupied with German POWs up to 1948.
Although some evidence has been lost due to costal erosion, the fact that the land is now occupied by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds nature reserve has meant that many of the concrete installations, brick buildings, firing ranges and protective banks are still intact.
