Ayr

Airfield

RAF Ayr was the designation of Heathfield Airfield (not the same as RAF Prestwick), occupying a site to the north of Ayr (Craigie) race course . Originally intended as a base for two day, and one night fighter units to protect shipping and ports. Although allocated to the 8th Air Force on 12 July 1943, it was not occupied by such units.

The land has now been turned over to housing and a retail park.
