Detailed History

September 9th, 1944 a B24 Liberator bomber 42-52196 and its crew were on their way from Leucars base in Scotland to Norway. The plane was loaded with weapons and equipment. The mission was to drop supplies to Norwegian resistance groups in the area near Buskerud. The plane came too low and crashed right under the top of the mountain Skorve in Seljord. (At a place called Langjefellhaddin).

The cause of the accident is unknown, but one of the theories is that they had problems with ice on the plane.

At first the crew were buried near the crash site. After the war came to an end they were moved to the military graveyard "Neuville-en-Condroz" in Belgium. Finally, in 1950, they were brought back to USA and buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St.Louis, Missouri.
