Detailed History

At the entrance to the churchyard stands a tall white cross. At the base, a plaque tells us that this memorial was placed at St Ethelbert, East Wrethem, by survivors of the 359th Fighter Group in 1985. An interesting note about this churchyard: it contains the graves of 14 Polish and Czech servicemen who had joined the British forces following the invasion of their countries. The graves are a still a place of pilgrimage for family members.
