Detailed History
The airfield at Piryatin was one of three selected by U.S. and Soviet authorities to be utilized for shuttle bombing operations. The airfield was upgraded to accommodate heavy bombers during April and May 1945. The base was closed to American operations and evacuated of American personnel in late-September/early October 1944.
