His obituary recorded the following: 'LINDERER Howard Ado went home to the Lord on December 17, 1999, in Oklahoma City, after a long illness. He was born September 2, 1921, in Clinton, OK, to Ado and May (Lawson) Linderer and was the sixth of twelve children. He went to school in Clinton, as a boy, and graduated from Enid High School. He attended Phillips University in Enid and Oklahoma A & M College. Howard was a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot in World War II, stationed in England. On June 12, 1944, he was shot down over Versailles, France, captured by German soldiers, and imprisoned in Stalag Luft III. Patton's Army liberated Howard and his fellow prisoners on April 28, 1945. Among his several decorations are the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserves. His career with the Frisco Railroad spanned 44 years. He was Vice-President of Public Relations in Oklahoma City when he retired in 1981.'
