Military ROLL OF HONOURShot down 21 May 1943 in B-17 #42-3214, Killed in Action (KIA).
Started career with the 303rd BG, 360th BS in early 1941. Was transferred to 11th BG, 98th BS in late May of 1942 and flew search/reconnaissance missions from Hickam AFB in Hawaii during the Battle of Midway until his B-17 was forced down in the Pacific on June 15, 1942. 2 Crew-members perished, but the rest were rescued 2 days later.
Was transferred to 306th BG, 368th BS and flew their first operational mission in October 1942 as Lead Bombardier. He was wounded by shrapnel on their 2nd mission in Nov. of '42. He took place in the first US Bomb raid on Germany-Wilhelmshaven in 1943. Was Killed in Action (KIA) on his 24th mission - after dropping bombs on Wilhelmshaven Naval Yard.
Awards: American Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, WW II Victory Medal, EAME Campaign Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, Air Medal w/ 3 Oak Leaf Cluster, 2 purple hearts.
