This original 466th BG crew was shot down on their 11th mission, 29 April 1944. Dwan was not on board that day and was replaced by John B. Stuart. Also Robert J. Falk had joined the crew as a waist gunner and was the only man KIA when they were shot down. Pipes and Heafner were evadees. The rest were made POW. 466th Bomb Group collection

7688 Daarle, Netherlands 29 April 1944 Bailed out and landed near a castle owned by Baron Von Pallandt. The Baron hid him but eventually had to give him up to the Germans so that he could be treated for his wounds.
