CASUALTY :
On November 30, 1944, the U.S. Army Air Force's Sergeant D'Inzillo experienced a critical situation in mortal combat, which resulted in the loss of his life. Recorded circumstances attributed to: Finding of Death. Incident location: Germany.
DETAILS :
Sgt. D'Inzillo was flying with the crew of the B-17G, 42-97407, named, As-Te-Risk, during a mission to the oil plant at Merseburg, Germany. His plane had a mid air collision with another B-17G, 44-8080, named, The Saint. The Saint, had been hit by flak over Mersberg, the target, that caused the pilot to lose control and impact D'Inzillo's plane, As-Te-Risk, which caught fire and broke apart. Both planes went down in the crash.
Three men were thrown free from, As-Te-Risk, after, The Saint, collided with it. Six of the crew members on, As-Te-Risk, were killed, and three parachuted safely, and were captured. 6 KIA - 3 POW. Tragically, the entire crew of ten men on, The Saint, were killed. 10 KIA. 30 Nov 44. MACR 11136
