Military22-Feb-43 Assigned to the 303BG/358BS at Molesworth, UK as Radio Operator of the 2LT James R. Dunn crew.
31-Mar-43 While serving as the Radio Operator of B-17F #42-29573 "Two Beauts", 303BG/358BS the aircraft sustained a mid-air collision with B-17F #41-24559 "Ooold Soljer", 303BG 360BS during assembly for a mission to bomb the shipyards at Rotterdam, Holland. This occurred less than an hour from takeoff with each carrying 6 bombs for the mission to Rotterdam. He was injured but able to bail out of the aircraft and Returned to Duty (RTD). The planes crashed at Mears Ashby and 303rd reports a memorial to the two crews is there.
4-Jul-43 Shot down in B-17F #42-5792 "The Mugger" 303BG/358BS while serving as Radio Operator. Pilot O'Connor stayed with the plane as most crew members successfully bailed out to become Prisoner of War (POW)s and evaders. Hogue was taken to Stalag Luft 3 and then transferred to Stalag 13D Nuremberg-Langwasser on 15-Jan-45. Liberated 16-Apr-45. Evacuated to the US and Discharged from the USSAAF on 12-Jul-45.
