On the 20 February Fighter Support mission to Leipzig and Brunswick, Germany, he bailed out of his P-51 43-12131 after pieces of the ME-109 he’d just destroyed severely damaged the engine. Last sighted over Leipzig, Germany. Captured immediately after landing. POW (MACR 2417).
After returning home enters Inactive Reserves. Works as a pilot for Woodley Airways in Alaska 12-45.
Applied for and received a regular commission in the USAF. Assigned as Flight Commander 94FS/1FG at March Field, CA. 7-46.
Personnel Officer, 3535th Bombardment Training Wing at Mather AFB, CA. 9-49.
Director of Military Personnel, CTAF HQ, Randolph AFB, TX. 2-52.
Assigned to 4th FIW at Kimpo, South Korea, first as Group Op's Officer, then as 336 Squadron C/O. 12-53.
Planning Officer at USAF HQ, C/O of 3033 PTG at Bartow AFB, FL and C/O of the 3525 PTG at Williams AFB, AZ. 1954-62.
Assigned to Joint US MAG in Thailand as Deputy Chief, Air Force section, followed by a tour as Director of Op's, 2nd Air Division in Vietnam. 8-62.
Appointed Vice Commander, 479 TFW George AFB, CA. 8-65.
Assumes command of the wing in 2-62.
Assumes command of the 347th TFW in Japan. 7-67.
Assumes command of the 327th Air Division at Taipei Air Station in Taiwan. 6-71.
Retires from the USAF as a Major General 1974.
Passes Nevada Bar Exam, becomes an attorney 1982.
