Poutry was relieved of command of this crew and reassigned to ground job in the 786th BS after one mission. Clyde Shrum (Co-Pilot on the Fred McConnell Crew) took over and led the crew for 4 missions. So began the odyssey for this crew. They were led successively by Thomas McKiernan (6 Missions as Crew #569), Robert Yelton (6 missions as Crew #574) and Bernard J. Smolka (20 missions as Crew #574.) Lorenz also flew several missions with new crews, taking them into combat on their first missions.
