Fatal crash in B-17 42-5791 flying through overcast, plane crashed into Cwm Mountain, Wales, while on a non-operational mission ferrying airmen who had completed tours of duty, from Horham in Suffolk to Woodvale near Southport, for further transportation to the United States. Alden Witt was among the 18 men on board, all killed in the crash. Killed in service (KIS)
