Rougham Control Tower memorial plaques
On March 4, 1944, Delmar Pollock was the Pilot of B-17 tail #42-38169 of the 94th Bomb Group, 331st Bomb Squadron, when, probably hit by Flak, it went down over St. Omer, France on a mission to Berlin on 4 March 1944 (The Fortress is also wrongly listed as 42-31169 - Freeman's "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story"). Killed in Action (KIA). The Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 2998 - has many pages, except the one with the next-of-kin, listing him as Pollack, but his last name was indeed Pollock. 2nd Lieutenant Delmar D. Pollock was born March 6, 1918. His next of kin were his wife, Kathleen Pollock, and his parents, Finis Randolph Pollock and Clara Pollock. He was living in Miranda City, Webb County, Texas in 1940. According to NARA's WW II Enlistment records, his residence at the time of enlistment was in Bexar County, Texas. His wife Kathleen lived in Laredo, Webb County, Texas and remarried after the war.
Delmar Pollock rests at the Hebbronville Cemetery in Hebbronville, Jim Hogg County, Texas.
According to MACR 2998, Lt Pollock was the Pilot of 42-38169. There was a fire in the radio compartment, reason unknown. No flak reported in the area. The aircraft peeled off, out of formation, and went into a dive. "By attempting to recover from a tight spiral, he stayed with the ship until it blew up." (28.11.2015)

Revisions
Corrected a typo in the "Summary biography" - "probably" was misspelled,
Deleted wrong nickname for 42-38169 (it had none...) - Double entry in Freeman's "The B-17 Flying Fortress Story" > confusion with 42-31169...
Corrected a/c Serial number under Biography - Other - Killed In Action
It's Pollock, not Pollack...
