Was killed in a car crash with his wife Betty Lou. The accident occurred 4 miles south of Jackson, MI on US-127 when a car coming from the opposite direction tried to pass a truck and collided head-on with the Bercaw's car. Their daughter Brenda, 4 years old at the time, survived the crash with minor injuries.
